Frequently Asked Questions
Common Questions
How do I request a booking?
Fill out the booking form at lomooutfitting.com/contact. Include your preferred dates, trip type, number of anglers, and whether any anglers are youth. Matt will confirm availability and send a deposit link within one business day.
What does the deposit cover?
The deposit is 80% of the total trip fee, paid at time of booking to hold your date. The remaining 20% is paid to the guide on the day of your trip.
| Trip | Total | Deposit (80%) | Day-of (20%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full Day — Single Boat | $675 | $540 | $135 |
| Half Day — Single Boat | $575 | $460 | $115 |
| Early Season Full Day | $500 | $400 | $100 |
| Heroes Program — Full Day | $500 | $400 | $100 |
| Multiple Boats | $675/boat | $540/boat | $135/boat |
What do I need to bring?
The guides provide all fly fishing gear — rods, reels, flies, and terminal tackle. Full day trips include a shoreline lunch and cold drinks. What you need to bring:
- Layers appropriate for the weather. Montana weather changes quickly on the water.
- Hat and polarized sunglasses.
- Sunscreen and bug spray.
- Closed-toe shoes or water shoes. Waders are not required from a drift boat.
- All personal items in one small to medium duffle bag — drift boats have limited storage.
Guides do not provide waders, rain gear, or any clothing. If you need waders, fly shops in Craig and Wolf Creek carry gear and can outfit you before your trip.
Do I need a Montana fishing license?
Yes. All anglers 12 and older are required by Montana law to purchase a fishing license before the trip date. Licenses are purchased through Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks — not through Lo Mo Outfitting.
Purchase at: fwp.mt.gov/buyandapply/fishinglicenses
License fees are set by the state and are separate from your trip cost.
Where do I stay?
All trips launch from around Craig, Montana. Lodging options:
- Craig — Several lodges and cabins on or near the river. Book early, especially for peak season (June–August).
- Wolf Creek — 15 minutes south of Craig, additional lodging options.
- Helena — 45 minutes south via I-15. Full range of hotels. Good option if you want city amenities.
- Great Falls — 55 minutes north. Full range of hotels.
- Tent and RV camping is also available in the area.
Matt will confirm your meeting location before the trip based on where you’re staying.
How do I get to Craig?
Craig is on I-15, Exit 234, between Helena and Great Falls. If flying in, Helena Regional Airport (HLN) and Great Falls International Airport (GTF) are both within an hour. Car rental is available at both airports. Matt will confirm the exact meeting location closer to your trip date.
What if I've never fly fished before?
Beginners are welcome. Tell Matt when you book — he’ll match you with a guide who enjoys teaching. The Missouri River is a great place to learn. Most first-timers catch fish.
Can I bring my kids?
Children 6 and older are welcome. For safety reasons, children 5 and younger cannot be accommodated on the boats.
Youth anglers 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and count as one of the 2 anglers per boat. Per Montana State Boating Regulations (MCA Title 23, Chapter 2, Part 6), children under 12 must wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved life vest at all times on the boat.
What about gratuity?
Gratuity is not included in the trip price and is not required, but it is appreciated. Standard gratuity is $150 for a half day trip and $200 for a full day trip, per guide. For multiple-boat trips, tip each guide individually.
